Locate
Interaction Design – UX/UI – Branding
The Goal
“Locate” was a team project created out of a problem I faced when I moved to a new city. Due to the distance, I couldn't visit to get to know the areas before moving. Locate is a prototype of an app, that learns about your needs by asking you questions in a playful manner and suggests suitable areas to live.
The Challenge
One of the biggest challenges was to create a logical summary of users' needs. Since it is impossible to take into account all aspects of a user's personal life, we had to find effective ways to narrow them down.
Deliverables
App design and branding
Wireframes
High fidelity prototypes
Persona

Defining a consistent branding
The Approach
Interviews
Since students weren’t the only ones concerned about moving to a new area, we began by interviewing three key user groups that best represented a wide range of needs.
Singles
Couples
Families
Creating Personas
Based on the insights from our interviews, I developed three personas, each with unique situations, goals, and pain points.
Asking the Right Questions
In order to ask the user appropriate questions during the questionnaire,
it was important to recognize which aspects of the users personal life could be relevant.
At the same time, we kept in mind the different lifestyles people pursure in terms of hobbies, grocery shopping habits and urgent medical needs.
To limit the amount of questions that the user gets asked, every question got categorized.
Wireframes
To map out the general design of the app, we build wireframes and added a user flow.
Key Features
To engage the user, we introduced a swiping gesture. It's intuitive and adds gamification, guiding users through questions playfully and preventing monotomy.
The app features colorful map layers that appear after completing the survey. These layers, categorized by color (e.g., sports, nature), show city locations that reflect the user’s preferences.
Function Overview
In order to make the key features comprehensible for the user, a tutorial at the beginning of the app has been added which briefly describes the swiping gesture as well as the meaning of the colorful layers on the map.
